Time For Goodbye

After a whole load of soul-searching, we have decided to close down this site. There isn't one overriding factor that has brought us to this decision, but a number of reasons which make us feel that further updates are neither necessary nor desirable.

Bob Lord's Sausage was launched as a proper fanzine in the summer of 1997, and we sold the first edition at Vicarage Road when Chris Waddle took charge of the Clarets for the first time.

Edition 12 was published in May 2001 and since then we have provided match reports, news updates and occasional critical comments on this website. But the demand for fanzines and football websites has changed over the last four years. The game itself has also undergone a quiet, but quick revolution, with money placed clearly above any other motivations - for players, and clubs. Perhaps this pursuit of money makes it doubly difficult for us to feel quite as passionate in the often atmosphere-free environs of Turf Moor as we did six years ago.

Certainly, the standards have been raised higher in certain respects by a handful of other websites. But then one has to examine the weight of football writing set against its quality, and wonder if these sites are full of words which no one really wants to read.

It is true that we have lost some of our passion. It is also true that blanket coverage of anything, including Burnley Football Club, can lead to passion fatigue and antipathy. Perhaps there is a new generation of fans preparing themselves for the Turf Moor experience that will contribute something positive to the game. Or maybe we are exiting the second golden age of football.

Thanks to the hundreds of Clarets fans who supported us while publishing the fanzine. The buzz of writing, publishing and selling the fanzine was enriched by the many words of support and appreciation we received as we stood outside a host of First and Second Division grounds.
